Redlands Bicycle Classic Social Ride

IEBA is hosting a social fun ride during Saturday's stage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic. From the organizer:

"We are using NON race type bikes. Think Stingrays, folding bikes, beach cruisers. As long as it meets the criteria of being "safe", all is good. Costumes are encouraged too.
Third, and this is the big one, at 3:30 on Sat we are doing a Social Ride for EVERYONE. We are looking for any kind of funky, crazy, unusual bike you can dig up."

So show up, bring a costume if you like (helmets are requested by RBC), and have a good time at the Classic!

Class 1 Bikeway on Orange St!

We're very close to getting a separated bicycle lane between Redlands and Highland on Orange St. Orange St. is a logical connector between the two cities, and can potentially have a lot of bike traffic. Especially beneficial to students at Citrus Valley HS! Right now the only real hold up is Redlands deciding if it will be an eight or an 11 foot lane. The push is for 11 as there is bound to be pedestrians, wheelchair, shopping carts etc. using the lane, and 11 feet is really what is needed to handle the amount of traffic this will get. The IEBA is asking for comments on this proposal. Please click through to their FB posting and leave a supportive comment, question or recommendation!

2015 Redlands Strada Rossa

Running errandsIf you ride bikes in Redlands, and this isn't on your radar, well you're just not paying attention, are you??? The RSR will prove to be the most fun you'll have on two wheels all year. Challenging, entertaining, illuminating... all that and lunch thrown in!

More info on the above-linked blog, as well as that facebook thing.

Definitely something to look into, with the full 100km metric century route, and a 50km half-route. The 50 is a GREAT way to get into mixed-surface riding... it's what all the cool kids are into!

See get on out there and see what all the fun is about!

2015 Redlands Tour of the Emerald Necklace

IF you by chance haven't signed up, whatcha' waiting for??? This is the best way to spend a day on two wheels! Good food, good people, great route.

Woody's If you're looking for some reasons OTHER than the the food, people, route, here's something to think about:
 1) The ride has attracted the attention of many of our area's most creative food community; business like Augies, ala minute, Hanger 24, Escape Brewery, Sabines and many others. If enrollment for the ride is high, these businesses will pay attention to the cycling community and be more likely to support our club and bike friendly public initiatives.

 2) The ride will highlight open-space features of our town and provide information about some of our unique public recreation amenities. High participation will encourage politicians and city officials to continue to support acquisition and development of public lands. Low turnout will not.

 3) The ride is a combination of a challenging course with 35 miles and over 2000' of climbing and terrific food stops to allow both well-trained and less accomplished riders to do at their pace

 4) 3 brewery stops

 5) The ride supports the good work of the Redlands Conservancy that hopes to make this an annual event

 6) 3 brewery stops

 7) All for $35

If you have other family or friends who are less accomplished or motivated riders there is a shorter flatter version of the ride that eliminates almost all of the climbing but retains many of the cool stops. In fact, it will stop at the site downtown where the alley behind Oscar’s is being made into an urban park.

Two Shining Seas- a group of disabled veterans from America’s military rode bicycles, hand cycles and recumbent cycles from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Two Shining Seas ride honored the courage of our military and the strength of the American spirit. Since the majority of the participants are disabled, the ride provided a dramatic example that disabled Americans can lead productive lives and accomplish remarkable athletic feats.

Road to Roubaix- Road To Roubaix is a documentary on the most prestigious one-day cycling race in the world, Paris-Roubaix. First held in 1896 and now in its 105th edition, the race is a grueling contest over 160 miles of narrow, cobbled farm roads in the Picardie and Norde-Pas-de-Calais regions of France with a finish in the historic Roubaix velodrome. Road to Roubaix is a visual narrative of an old-school, bare-knuckle clash of the finest athletes in the world with each other and one of the world's most unforgiving sporting environments. The filmmakers tell the story of the riders, the fans, the mechanics, and the unpredictable landscape that is the setting for the Paris-Roubaix.
